Sophia Wolfe

    Born in Burnaby, Sophia started taking ballet at the age of 3 as well as training as a gymnast. With gymnastics being her main point of focus in her young ages, she also trained under the Royal Academy of Dance for 13 years. Dance later played a bigger part of her life when she moved to Vancouver Island and became a part of DanceStreams, a pre-professional program for youth where she performed works by Alison Denham, Shay Kuebler and Julia Carr. In 2010 she moved to Vancouver to see where her dancing could take her and joined Modus Operandi contemporary dance training program (MO) directed by Tiffany Tregarthan and David Raymond. In MO she has been part of works by Justine Chambers, Tiffany Tregarthen, Wen Wei, and Amber Funk Barton. Sophia’s keen interest in film-making has led her to create her own Dance On Film projects “Fragment” and “Dwell,” which have both been shown at various festivals and events, and continues develop new dance on screen works to further investigate in her own creative process. Sophia joined 605 as Artistic Intern in 2014, as apprentice dancer and filmmaker. During her internship she had the opportunity of directing a short film for a web series on CBC entitled “THE COLLECTIVE”. Sophia is joining 605 as a full company member for the 2015/16 season.
